Reesie has a home!

Reesie will be traveling to his new home in Washington, Pa., later this week.
Angel Ridge Rescue (http://members.petfinder.org/~PA231/index.html) finds homes for animals that are hard to place. My stepsister who operates an animal rescue operation in central Pennsylvania put out a call last week after I told her about Reesie. The response was overwhelming. Within 24 hours, we had 76 responses.
"The most amazing thing I found is that there are so many rescues and people who are willing to take on a handicapped or blind animal. Many people already had 2 or 3 pets of their own that were special needs and thought nothing of offering to help with Reesie," my step sister Deb wrote in an e-mail.
We chose Angel Ridge because Nancy Shannon has the resources and times to address the needs of a blind puppy. She told me blind dogs live long and happy lives.
We'll drive Reesie as far as Beckley, W.Va., where a kind couple from Charleston will meet us and take him on to Washington, which is about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh.
This is why I prefer wildlife rehab: I never feel bad when I release a squirrel or an opposum. But I suspect I'll shed a few tears when I hand over Reesie.

Reesie Needs a Home

Reesie is a 4-week-old chocolate lab. His mother was abandoned at a trailer park in Randolph County. Two weeks ago, she was struck and killed by a car.

Reesie's blind. He'll need special care. But I have the feeling he'll be a once-in-a-lifetime pet.
