Hawk eyes

A broad-winged hawk perched on a tree limb near my sunroom window this afternoon. Two blue jays gave an alarm call, a soft whistle designed to recruit other birds to chase the intruder. It seems as though their call went unanswered. The blue jays flew near the hawk a couple of times before retreating.
We see hawks all the time at the rehab center. They come in with broken wings and head injuries caused by run-ins with vehicles. As beautiful as they are, they seem diminished in rehab. Nothing compares to the beauty of seeing them in the wild.
