The Mob

Last Saturday we watched from our front yard as two broad-winged hawks swooped over the house. Crows mobbed them, getting close enough to pull at their feathers. Eventually the crows retired to a cedar tree across the street. The hawks performed an intricate ballet in flight. In the afternoon stillness, their callwas especially eerie. It reminded me of the Ringwraiths from Lord of the Rings. You can hear it here: http://www.hangingrocktower.org/calls/broad-winged.htm
